Concussion treatment and rehabilitation focus on rest and a gradual return to activity, with strategies varying based on individual needs and symptom severity. Early intervention, including physical and cognitive rest, is crucial, but prolonged inactivity can hinder recovery. A multi-faceted approach incorporating physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other specialized therapies is often necessary for optimal outcomes.
Prolonged Concussion Symptoms, formerly known as Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS), create a complex clinical picture that requires a specially trained and experienced concussion clinician. Our clinicians are ready to help find the root cause of lingering symptoms.
We are proud to offer a more comprehensive vision exam using advanced, state-of-the-art eye-tracking technology. The RightEye system enables our doctors to pinpoint functional vision and brain health issues, identify the root cause of reading problems, and improve athletic performance. In just 5 minutes, this proven, patented technology measures visual skills in ways that a standard eye exam cannot — enabling us to diagnose and treat underlying vision issues that affect our patients’ quality of life.
Our practice uses Creyos to more precisely understand cognitive and behavioral health, leading to data-driven clinical decision making, more effective treatment plans, and a better patient experience.
Regular cognitive testing can detect gradual changes in memory, reasoning, concentration, and verbal abilities. These small changes can be early signs of various neurological diseases including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other types of dementia.
With Creyos cognitive assessments, together we can catch changes in your brain health. This provides us the opportunity to help delay illness by getting a headstart on preventative treatment.
Everyone wants good balance to support an active lifestyle and prevent falls and injuries. But how do you know if you have good balance? You measure it! Just like you do with body temperature, blood pressure, height and weight. Measuring an individual’s postural sway in a controlled testing environment provides an excellent indication of balance health. Computerized systems like BTrackS are the gold standard for measuring postural sway and balance. Similar in concept to your weight scale, you stand on the BTrackSTM Balance Plate and it measures, in centimeters, how much your body is swaying.
Return to Learn
Concussion symptoms can affect memory and concentration, which can impact academic performance. Return to learn helps students gradually return to mental activity and learning.
Getting your child back to school will help them get back to doing regular activities again. It may take your child only a few days or up to 2 weeks to finish the steps of returning to school full time.
Return to Play
Return to play is a step-by-step rehabilitation strategy that follows a specific concussion protocol. This protocol includes assessments and sport-specific activities designed to determine both physical and cognitive recovery.
Current recommendations advise a stepwise return to play program. For an athlete to resume activity, they must be completely symptom-free and not taking any pain control or headache medications. Additionally, the athlete should be managing a full academic load without needing significant accommodations. Finally, clearance from an appropriate healthcare provider is required.
